MILAN - Juventus needs a win to stay in touch with the top two teams in Group A of the Champions League.Visiting Olympiakos has the same amount of points as Atletico Madrid, with Juventus three points behind.Atletico, last years runner-up, visits Malmo, which earned its only points by beating Olympiakos the last time it played at home in the competition. But the Swedish team lost in Madrid 5-0.Here are some things to know about Tuesdays games:___PIRLO TO THE RESCUEAndrea Pirlo is coming into form just as Juventus needs him the most. The midfielder missed the first month of the season with a bruised hip after getting injured in a preseason match.Pirlo scored his first goal of the season on Saturday with a free kick which helped Juventus to a 2-0 win at Empoli and sent the three-time defending champions three points clear at the top of the Serie A standings.Im improving, Im working hard during the week and I feel better every match, Pirlo said. (The win) was an important sign, mainly for ourselves, that enables us to prepare as best we can for Tuesdays game. Its like a final and we must put in a great performance because only one result will do.___NO COMPLEX FOR JUVEJuventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has no problem with the Champions League. The Italian side is aiming for a fourth straight Serie A title this season and leads league, three points clear of Roma. However, in Europe it is a different story and Allegri knows anything but a win would leave Juventus on the verge of elimination from the group stage for the second straight season. To improve we have to stay calm and not let ourselves be influenced by what people say, Allegri said. Theres no European complex here. We do, however, have just three points and we need to put that right. Its 90 minutes in which we are playing to go through. Winning is a must tomorrow.___AERIAL ATLETICOAtletico Madrid has been honing its finishing skills as it rises to second-place in the Spanish league.Left winger Antoine Griezmann scored his first two goals this season to give coach Diego Simeones squad a 4-2 win over Cordoba. For his second, Griezmann jumped for a header to turn in Juanfran Torres cross at the near post.Atletico has scored 12 of its 19 league goals with headers___TROUBLE AT HOME?Olympiakos coach Michel Gonzalez denies holding back on domestic games to seek an advantage against Juventus on Tuesday. The Greek team has already pulled off surprise home wins over the Italian champions and 2014 Champions League finalist Atletico Madrid to share first place with the Spanish side in Group A. But the team slipped five points behind leader PAOK in the domestic league after being held 0-0 by 10-man Asteras. We didnt hold anything back. We dont have that luxury, Gonzalez said. We view each game as our most important. Our problem isnt how to deal with defensive opponents, but our finishing. We can get through the lines of the opposing team. But then we deliver bad crosses and bad shots on goal.Olympiakos travels to Turin with a full squad after resting Champions League standout Alejandro Dominguez and Dutch striker Ibrahim Afellay over the weekend.___OLSEN BACKMalmo goalkeeper Robin Olsen is likely to play against Atletico Madrid despite coming off with a thigh injury in the Swedish teams final league match of the season on Saturday.Team doctors say they count on Olsen starting the game on Tuesday even if he hasnt fully recovered. The Danish goalkeeper has been crucial to Malmos strong performance at home in qualifying matches and the 2-0 group win over Olympiakos on Oct. 1. But like the rest of the team, his confidence took a beating in Madrid two weeks ago when Atletico trounced Malmo 5-0 with five second-half goals.
. Chris Heisey connected for his first grand slam and Devin Mesoraco homered and drove in a career high-tying four runs as Cincinnati took advantage of Tampa Bays depleted pitching staff for a 12-4 victory on Sunday.
. But its also a smart game. Theres more to the Kings than banging bodies. They take a toll mentally on their opponents.
. The Calgary Stampeders announced both moves on Wednesday. Parker played 17 regular season games with the Stampeders in 2013, setting career-highs in catches (21) and yards (217).
. People familiar with the case told The Associated Press on Friday that arbitrator Fredric Horowitz could issue his decision this weekend.
. The Detroit Tigers closer blew a three-run lead in the ninth inning Wednesday night against the Dodgers. Each week, The Reporters put their thumbs out to the good and the bad in the world of sports. This week, they discuss Tour de France selfies, Adam Linds mom, Louis van Gaal embarrassing himself, and self-serve beer machines. Bruce Arthur, Toronto Star My thumb is down to idiots, which is a general statement, so lets specify: my thumb is down to the idiots who have decided to take selfies, to use the infantilizing term for photos you take of yourself, during the Tour de France. On the side of the road. With the riders whizzing by. Fans are often uncomfortably close to the cyclists during the Tour, which is part of the old-world charm, but at least are usually facing the race, so they can see the men flying towards them at high speeds. Taking selfies has now caused several harmless but dangerous crashes, and a high number of near-misses. Look, its bad enough that we call them selfies. Its a real accomplishment to make taking them dumber than the name. Steve Simmons, Sun Media My thumb is up to Adam Linds mom, for doing what moms do best. For giving helpful and thoughtful advice to one of her children. Lind complained not long ago that the foot he injured with a foul ball on June 14 didnt seem to be getting better. You can tell your mom that. You cant always tell your trainers or doctors. Lind had all the tests. Still, it didnt seem right. His mom, not a doctor, was clear: get an MRI. And so he asked for one. The imaging was done and it was determined he had a fracture in his foot. The Jays then sent him to North Carolina to see a foot specialist. The diagnosis now is that Lind will be out two weeks after this weeks All-Star GGame.dddddddddddd And there is no talk of adding Linds mom to the Jays medical or training staff. Maybe there should be. Michael Farber, Sports Illustrated My thumb is down to coach Louis van Gaal and the Netherlands, whose color is orange but whose liver is lilly. van Gaal said he asked two players to take the first penalty kick in the shootout against Argentina and was rebuffed twice. If those unnamed players indeed did decline, it represents turtling of the first order. But van Gaal also deserves blame. He asked players to take the kick. He didnt tell them. Since when did sports - especially the World Cup - become a democracy? Penalty kicks in the semifinal shouldnt be a show-of-hands thing. Brazil was humiliated by Germany, but the Netherlands embarrassed itself without any help. Dave Hodge, TSN My thumb is down to a new idea that proves that all new ideas arent good ideas. At the MLB All-Star game in Minnesota, beer can be purchased at self-serve machines. I want you to imagine that youre thirsty and at the back of the line while the person at the front of the line is first undergoing, via the beer machine, an ID check for proof of age. Then the purchase of a money card that will allow access to the machine, so the brand of beer can be selected, and the quantity of beer, by the ounce, can be determined, followed of course by the pouring of the beer, spillage would seem unavoidable. Meanwhile at the back of the line, if a vendor walked by, with a can of beer in his hand, can you think of any reason to wait until you get to the front of the line, except to take a selfie...you and the beer machine?
